The human chromosome 14q32 carries a cluster of imprinted genes which include the paternally expressed genes (PEGs) DLK1 and RTL1, as well as the maternally expressed genes (MEGs) MEG3, RTL1as, and MEG8. PEGs and MEGs expression at the 14q32.2-imprinted region are regulated by two differentially methylated regions (DMRs): the IG-DMR and the MEG3-DMR, which are respectively methylated on the paternal and unmethylated on the maternal chromosome 14 in most cells. Genetic and epigenetic abnormalities affecting these imprinted gene clusters result in two different phenotypes currently known as maternal upd(14) syndrome and paternal upd(14) syndrome. Lo sviluppo dei sistemi di radio navigazione satellitare richiede lo studio di soluzioni nuove, in particolar modo per quanto riguarda l'integrazione di più sistemi satellitari. In numerosi lavori è stata studiata l'influenza che l'utilizzo congiunto dei sistemi satellitari GLONASS e GPS hanno in un rilievo topografico. Tuttavia, scopo di questo articolo scientifico non è tanto quello di valutare questa influenza, ma di dare un forte apporto allo sviluppo di un nuova metodologia, del tutto innovativa, denominata Multiconstellation. Il contesto è un volume dedicato a ricordare e approfondire, da differenti punti di vista, la figura di Edoardo Caracciolo, ingegnere e architetto, riconosciuto capostipite della scuola di Urbanistica dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo. Questo saggio ripercorre la storia della sua carriera di docente universitario a partire dalla fondazione a Palermo, nel 1944, della Facoltà di Architettura, in cui emerge il suo ruolo formativo trainante e la sua influenza sugli sviluppi della cultura architettonica del primo dopoguerra in Sicilia fino alla sua morte improvvisa avvenuta nel 1962.

Congenital malformations are single or multiple defects of the morphogenesis of organs or body districts identifiable at birth or during the intrauterine life. Their global birth prevalence is about 2–3%. Both genetic and environmental factors, as well as their combination in a multifactorial contest, may induce congenital defects. Congenital malformations may be classi- fied on the basis of clinical, etiologic as well as pathogenetic criteria.
